Meeting on Point Marion Park Set
Future plans for the Facility to be Addressed in Public Forum

Morgantown Dominion Post
26 May 2004

A public meeting about the future plans for the Point Marion Community Park will be held by The Friends of the Point Marion Park.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 17, in the back room of the American Legion Hall on Railroad Street.

Attendees can use the side entrance facing the parking lot; the site is handicapped accessible.

The meeting will be conducted by the McMillen Engineering Company of Uniontown. The firm is currently mapping the park and preparing a master site plan. They will have drawings of the park and possible future improvements on display.

This work is being funded through a grant to the borough by the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority.

The purpose of the town meeting is to solicit ideas and comments from the community, and from all users of the park, about possible improvements and upgrades.

It is very important that members of the community attend this town meeting to express their ideas and suggestions.

Before the borough can apply to the Department on Conservation and Natural Resources for grant funding, community priorities must be established.

It was through a Keystone Grant by the DCNR in 1996 that the new playground equipment was purchased. It was installed by community volunteers.

The park's location between the proposed rail-trail and the Monongahela River may significantly expand its usage in the near future. Presently the Pa. Fish and Boat Commission leases a portion of the park for a boat launch area.

The Upper Mon Water Trail from Fairmont to Rices Landing, Pa., has made the Point Marion Community Park one of the points of interest on its maps.

There are also plans for a proposed boat dock along the Monongahela River at the park.

The Sheepskin Trail will someday connect with the Mon River Trail coming north from West Virginia.

All of these developments will make the Point Marion Community Park more important to the community.
