Recreational boaters will be picking up additional time to float along the Monongalia and Allegheny rivers as the result of discussions at a new regional river users caucus.

Starting Friday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will add Friday and Monday hours for the Monongahela and Allegheny river locks, which are now open on limited schedules.

Dave Sneberger, with the Corps, said in an e-mail that Allegheny River Locks 5, 6, 7 and 8 (The Upper Allegheny) will be open from 12:30-8:10 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The Morgantown, Hildebrand and Opekiska locks on the Mon River will be open from 10:30 a.m.-6:20 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

"We will also be allowing recreational lockages from 8 a.m.-noon Monday mornings to accommodate return trips from weekend excursions," Sneberger wrote.
