spent the night trying to remove water in order to free the
vessel.

At about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, the boat began to sink, Star
City Police Chief Vic Propst said. The boat is called the
Enchantress and is owned by Grafton Mayor G. Thomas Bartlett III.
The boat is seen frequently docked along the Star City riverfront.
Only the very top portion of the boat could be seen above water as
night set in.
As of 7 p.m., crews were working on pumping water out of the boat.
Propst said they did not expect to have it removed from the water
by Monday night. Hazardous material crews were called to secure
the boat in case of leaks. There was no leakage Monday evening.
Propst said they don’t know why the boat began to sink — if it was
punctured or if it sunk from weight from melted snow. Nobody was
onboard and nobody was hurt in the incident.
There is also a concern of damage to the docks, Propst said.
