MORGANTOWN -- Robert Wong, chef/owner of Bridge Road Bistro in Charleston, will open the Boathouse Bistro in Morgantown's Wharf District in June.

"The experience that our guests will receive when they enter the restaurant will be something that is contemporary yet casual and comfortable," Wong said in a prepared statement. "The food is going to be global in nature in its flavors and style with great presentation."

The Boathouse Bistro will open in the Upper Mon River Center, where it will seat 100 people inside, and 50 outside on the deck.

"The addition of a restaurant by Chef Wong will be a great complement to the entire development of the Wharf District," said Parry Petroplus of Platinum Properties, which is responsible for that district's development, said in a prepared statement.

This is the first venture in Northern West Virginia for Wong, who is also managing member of the recently opened Rimfire Grille in Beckley and who has often expressed his ambition to develop a restaurant group. Previously, he served as executive chef of both The Greenbrier and The Resort at Glade Springs.

Michael Diethorn, director of operations at the Bridge Road Bistro, will relocate to Morgantown to become general manager of the Boathouse Bistro. He has worked with Wong for six years.
