With the large chamber of the Emswork Lock scheduled to be closed
until September 18th, several events on both sides of the lock are
sure to be impacted. The closure is expected to cause major
delays for recreational boaters looking to head to events on the
opposite side of the lock while the lock is closed from August 3rd
to September 18th. .
On the Ohio River below the Emsworth lock, several popular events
that are usually well attended by boaters in the Pittsburgh Pool
and beyond include the Beaver Valley Yacht Club Regatta (Aug. 14th
– 16th), Beaver County River Regatta (Aug. 21st-23rd), Wheeling
Vintage Raceboat Regatta (Sept. 4th-6th) and the Greater
Pittsburgh Aquatic Club’s annual Capt. Sean Ruane Memorial Corn
Hole Tournament and Party (Sept. 12th).
Above the Emsworth lock in the Pittsburgh Pool, such events as the
Coors Light Kickoff and Ribfest, Pirates, Steelers and Pitt
Panthers games along with numerous other concerts will be missed
by those below the Emsworth Lock.
While the delays are causing problems for boaters, according to
officials the repairs are necessary and could prevent much longer
closures in the future. For a look at all of the boating events in
the area, be sure to take a look at the BoatPittsburgh.com
