FAIRMONT - The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is working with the Marion County Commission to bring Palatine Park back to life.

The project has been the talk of the town for several months now.

The commission purchased property inside of Palatine Park from CSX Transportation several months ago.

It has been working for the past couple of months to clear trees, put in picnic tables, and prepare for future projects.

The commission said the Division of Natural Resources is enthusiastic about the project and has decided to install boat ramps at its own expense.

The DNR and commission have discussed hosting bass tournaments in the future.

This will allow commission to focus on other projects, like the splash park and installing a walking trail.

"We wanted a two lane boat ramp going in there. Going into the water. Then you would have to deal with the Army Corps of Engineers and the state DNR. They are going to take care of all of that. The engineering, so the engineering cost goes away for us. It's going to save us quite a bit of money," said Charlie Reese, Marion County Development Authority.

The Women's Club of Fairmont will host a public forum on plans for the park Thursday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.
