A malfunctioning hydraulic valve disabled operation of the upper
lock gates.
The Pittsburgh District of the US Army Corps of Engineers is
informing the tow industry and recreational boaters that
Hildebrand Lock and Dam on the upper Monongahela River near
Morgantown will close this weekend due to an unexpected
maintenance breakdown.
Lock staff discovered a malfunctioning hydraulic valve this
afternoon that disabled operation of the upper lock gates.
Maintenance crews will not make repairs until Tuesday, Oct. 11, so
the lock will be closed to all traffic for the holiday weekend.
The Corps expects to re-open the lock once repairs are made and
operate it until its scheduled seasonal closing, Oct. 29.
