National Learn to Row Day: 5 June

The Monongahela Rowing Association invites you to come out and participate in the commemoration of this year’s National Learn to Row Day, held in conjunction with equipment maker Concept2 and the National Olympic organization USRowing.

The Monongahela Rowing Association is Morgantown’s community organization dedicated to the sport of Rowing (member USRowing).

When: Saturday June 5th from 10am to 4:30pm

Where: Morgantown Boathouse, located at 40 Donley Street in Morgantown’s Wharf district (under the Boathouse Bistro on the trail).

Events will start at 10am and go until 4:30pm, free and open to all from ages 12.

Events will include Erg rowing demonstrations, Sculling and Sweep rowing demonstration. Get on the water and experience the exhilarating feeling of rowing.

Participants will have the opportunity to get on a shell (rowing boat) and try hands on, on the water rowing in a single shell or a sweep boat.

At 2 pm, information session (on the water demo) dedicated to high school age students that may be interested in exploring sweep rowing. (Open to HS age youth regardless of residence location.) Minors will need signed parental consent to go on the water.

The Monongahela Rowing Association is a non profit 501(c) 3 registered organization, first established in 1966 that initiated College Rowing at WVU in modern times.

Membership in MRA is open to anyone interested in the sport of rowing or interested in supporting the objectives of the organization.

WVU now has great women’s rowing team and offers many scholarships to female athletes in this great sport. Men’s rowing is a club sport at WVU.

Morgantown has a great river conducive to the sport of rowing, and being on this river is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Morgantown’s traffic for people of all ages.

Come out on June 5th and give it a try.
