RE: Burns amendment - WRDA 2004

Dear Congressman Mollohan:

The first enclosure is the 13 October 2004 Waterways Journal editorial re the Burns amendment.

As requested by Worth Hager, President, National Waterways Conference, we ask that you (and by copy of this letter, Congressman Rahall, Congressman Murtha, and, Senator Byrd) oppose the Burns amendment.

As you know, we in UMRA and the River Navigation Coalition have sought your help in keeping the locks open on the Upper Monongahela River in WV, and, the Upper Allegheny in PA.

The Burns amendment would shut down navigation on the Missouri in 2005. That would be a bad precedent! We need to keep all of our navigable rivers and their locks and dams open for commerce and recreational boating.

The second enclosure is Worth Hager’s 12 October 2004 email re Water Resources Development Act 2004.

We hope that you and Senator Byrd, and, Congressmen Rahall and Murtha, will be able to assist passage of WRDA 2004, via “whatever works” and with provisions helpful to our Upper Mon and Upper Allegheny needs!

Sincerely,

Donald C. Strimbeck, Secretary
