$281K will purchase 27-foot craft, truck

Granville will use a $281,000 port security grant to buy a rescue
boat and truck to use in waterrelated emergencies.
Municipal Administrator Ron Snyder said he applied for the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant for the police department
in 2009, while he was still chief.
Granville was recently notified by FEMA and the Port of Pittsburgh
that the grant had been awarded.
Snyder said they are going to buy a 27-foot fire rescue boat and a
truck to haul it.
The boat can be used by local emergency agencies to respond to any
location in the Port of Pittsburgh’s jurisdiction, which,
according to the port’s website, includes navigable waterways in
12 counties in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
It will be used in efforts to provide security and assist in river
rescues, fire suppression and disasters that involve waterways
along the Monongahela River, Snyder said in a press release.
Snyder said the Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers can also
use the boat if they need it.
Officers will be trained on how to use the boat before the
department puts it to work.
The Port of Pittsburgh could not be reached in time for this
report.
