Letter to the Editor
CONSOL Energy wants to thank the many community partners,
volunteers and participants who helped make our very first Fish
for Fun Day on May 5, at Lake Wilma in Blacksville, such a
tremendous success.
We wish to recognize our community partners who contributed to a
very successful event, including, Blacksville Volunteer Fire
Department, Cabela’s, Clay-Battelle Band , Clay-Battelle Band
Boosters, Chris Higbee, Joe Statler, Joe Rigg’s Tackle and Bait
Shop, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Pennsylvania Game
Commission, West Virginia Department of Safety and Health, West
Virginia Division of Natural Resources and WVU’s Monongalia County
Extension Agency.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Blacksville community
for its interest and participation in this inaugural event.
More than 800 children and adults turned out to cast their lines
for the biggest catch.
For nearly 150 years, CONSOL Energy has been an integral part of
this region — and we are proud to share the heritage of the
outdoors through our state agency-enrolled properties in West
Virginia and Pennsylvania — so that activities like hunting and
fishing can be passed on to future generations.
Lake Wilma is a former freshwater impoundment of Blacksville mine
that is enrolled with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
It can be enjoyed by the public for fishing and other outdoor
activities year-round.
Also, within the immediate area, we have joined with the DNR to
establish the Pedlar Run Wildlife Management Area, a 766-acre
expanse which includes family fishing lakes in western Monongalia
County.
Again, we extend our gratitude to the many community partners and
area families who participated in the first-ever Fish for Fun Day.
