Join West Virginia Rivers Coalition as it hosts the Wild &
Scenic Film Festival at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Metropolitan Theatre.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from
the annual festival held the third week of January in Nevada City,
Calif., that is now its 11th year.
Wild & Scenic focuses on films that speak to environmental
concerns and celebrations of the planet.
“People come from all over the region to be inspired and connect
with others committed to preserving the beauty of our natural
world,” said Angie Rosser, executive director of the West Virginia
Rivers Coalition. “The films this year put into context some of
the most pressing threats to the environment and ways people are
organizing to protect what they love.”
Doors for the Wild & Scenic Film Festival open at 6:30 p.m.
and films begin at 7 p.m. The evening includes door prizes,
raffles and giveaways from area and national sponsors.
This is West Virginia Rivers Coalition’s fourth year to show the
films in Morgantown.
“Morgantown is the perfect community to bring the Wild &
Scenic Film Festival,” said Kathleen Tyner, Advocacy and
Conservation program manager. “Folks connect with the films we
screen and can’t wait to come back next year.”
This year’s film program includes award-winning films such as, “To
o Special to Drill” and “Finding Their Way,” two films that tackle
the issue of natural gas development and how people protect the
places they love; “Huck,” which explores extreme whitewater
kayaking; and “Olivia’s Birds and the Gulf Oil Spill,” in which
Olivia teaches viewers that every person can make a difference as
she raises money for Audubon to help birds after the Gulf Oil
Spill.
