Swift currents on the Allegheny River, weather and other factors are
delaying the installation of a new fishing pier at the 13th Street
boat ramp area in Sharpsburg.
In September, Sharpsburg Borough Council awarded an $111,000
contract to Pampena Landscaping for the construction of the
30-foot-long, "T"-shaped fishing pier that will be accessible to
people with disabilities.
Officials are waiting for the contractor's final schedule, according
to consulting engineer Bob Zischkau.
"It's essential that we take our time with the installation process
to ensure that the pier is correctly installed," Councilman Matthew
Rudzki said.
The borough secured grants of about $110,000 from the state,
Allegheny County and the Port of Pittsburgh for the pier.
