Police Receive More Reports of Alligator in Monongahela River
Pittsburgh Tribune Review
9 April 2015
Six people called to give reports of an alligator in the
Monongahela River to Southwest Regional Police Thursday, said
Chief John Dale Hartman.
After an hour-long search Wednesday, no sign of a gator turned up
near the Water Street boat launch in Belle Vernon, where two
people claimed to have spotted the reptile Tuesday.
The police department called in help from the U.S. Coast Guard and
Collinsburg Volunteer Fire Department's swift-water rescue team to
search the banks of the river.
Hartman said the six calls Thursday claimed to see something
suspicious in the river within the last three weeks.
“The people seemed sincere, they wanted to call and let us know,”
he said. “All we had was six people call us today and say, ‘That's
true, we did see something in the river.'”
There were no new sightings or searches Thursday, Hartman said.
