Mon River Navigation to Reopen Tomorrow
Washington PA Observer Reporter
3 August 2012
The reopening of navigation on the Monongahela River at Charleroi
has been postponed until tomorrow as the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers completes repairs to Locks and Dam No. 4.
The lock under repair will reopen at 8 a.m. rather than today, as
previously scheduled, a corps spokesman said.
The delay was encountered because the lock hadn’t been drained in
many years and repair crews encountered more work than had been
anticipated.
Navigation came to a halt July 23, when the lock chamber was
drained in order to replace the upriver sill below the gates and
perform other maintenance. Copyright Observer Publishing Co.
